We all started Illustrator CC Essential Training (2015). I also sent in my goals of the week. In illustrator I started the instruction videos. Then I went to the what you already know videos. Then finally I went to the Chapter 1 videos. Illustrator seems like it will be a interesting new experience.
Today we worked on Lynda.Com. I worked on What is adobe illustrator and what that does is just tells you about adobe illustrator. Then I worked on Touring the Illustrator interface and what that does is tells you where to find everything and what everything does. Next I worked on Exploring the Illustrator’s tool panel and that just tells what tools there are and the short cut to get to them. I also worked on creating new documents which that helps you decide if your gonna be using RGB or CMY the image goes with the creating new documents. The photo shows the new document panel.
Then I worked on Lynda.com Lessons. The lesson I worked on was Setting up your Illustrator preferences. The first thing you do is go to Illustrator CC menu. Then Got to Preferences. Then you click General. It then takes you to this. Here is a screen shot of a list of different things you can fit into your own Preferences.
Today we worked on Lynda.com Lessons. I worked on Chapter 1 lesson 7 which is Setting up your Illustrator Preferences. I am now working on Chapter 2 Lesson 1 Navigating a single document. So I learned how to get to the navigator. You go to the window bar. Then you got to navigator. Finally this little box pops up that lets you go to certain places by dragging the picture where you want to go.
Chapter 2 Lesson 1
Now I am just gonna be working on Lynda.com Lessons. In this lesson on Lynda.com I am learning about the different screen modes. There are three different screen modes. The first one is normal screen mode. The second one is full screen mode with menu bar. The third one is full screen mode. There is a short cut to get to them which is the letter F. If you click on the F multiple times you can change to a different mode.
The Image I am working on is the Hotrod_Poster.ai
Today we worked on Lynda.com Lessons. I finished Lesson 5 Understanding screen modes in Chapter 2. Now I am working on Chapter 2 Lesson 6 Creating and using custom views. I learned how to make a new view. What that does is lets you see what image you clicked new view on. I have 3 different views. I have Comp #1. I have Comp #2. Finally I have Comp #3. Here is what each of the different views look like. Here are the steps how to get there. Step one go up and click view. Than go to new view. Then finally at the very bottom it tells you the different views you have. If you click on any of your views it will take you straight to that one. What I mean if you click on any of your views is if I click on Comp #3 it will take me straight to that ones view. Now I have 2 new views. First one is Fit on Screen. Second one is Outline on Screen. I finished Lesson 6 Creating and using custom views. Now I am on Lesson 7 Creating and using custom guides. I just finished Lesson 7. Now on lesson 8 Locking and hiding artwork. It is my last lesson in Chapter 2. I finished Chapter 2. I am now going to Chapter 3 Lesson 1 Creating multi-artboard documents.
Outline on Screen
Fit on Screen
Today we emailed our goals of the week. Today is we worked on Lynda.com Lessons. I worked on Chapter 3. I finished Lesson 2 Exploring the Artboards panel. I am now working on Lesson 3 Adding artboards on the fly. Here is the list of what you can do in the artboard. Here is the photo that artboard was used on. Now I am working on Manipulating artboards with the Artboard tool which is Lesson 4. I learned the short cut to get to the Artboard tool. It is Shift + O
Now I will be starting Lynda.com Lessons. I am on Chapter 3 Lesson 4 Manipulating Artboards with the Artboard tool. I didn’t really have time to start a Lesson on Lynda.com today.
Today we sent our goals of the week. Now we are working on Lynda.com lessons. I am working on lesson 4 Manipulating artboards with the artboard tool. Here is some of the process. This is how the picture was at first. This is how it is after I resized with artboard tool. You can get to the artboard tool by using the short cut shift + O. I am now working on lesson 5 Exporting your artboards as files. This helps you places the files as individual files. I just started Chapter 4 Lesson 1 Exploring the Layers panel. Here is the picture before any changes. I left early.
We worked on Lynda.com Lessons. We were suppose to have have career center but Mrs. McClure is sick.I am working on Exploring the Layers Panel. I am learning about the layers. You get to the layers panel by this little icon. Then it brings this up showing what layers are in it. The photo this layer is for is this one. The layer options and the updated dated layer panel. This is Chapter 4 Lesson 1.
Today we worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I am on Chapter 4 Lesson 3 Targeting objects inside the Layers panel. I learned how to make a group of layers in to an individual layer. I am now starting on Lesson 5 Hiding locking and deleting layers. Here is the image I will be working with. Here are all the layers with this image. These bottom 5 layers are locked. Which means you can’t do anything to them. Now I am on Lesson 6 Tips for organizing your artwork using layers. Here is the the image I will be working with on this lesson.
But I worked I worked on putting more details with my screenshots from Lynda.com Lessons. So I am just adding description for each screenshot. Which shouldn’t take to long. This is the first photo I added description to. Here is the second image I added description to. Finally I have added description to each photo. I also updated my basecamp.
I emailed my goals of the week today since I was absent yesterday. Now I am starting on Lynda.com Lessons. This is Lesson 6 Tips for organizing your artwork using layers.
The layers named header content and footer were added and then named.
This photo is where we find out about the header footer and content being with the background.
Today we worked on Lynda.com Lessons. I started Chapter 5 Lesson 1 Understanding vector paths. I am learning about Straight Curved and Closed Paths. Now I am on Lesson 2 Drawing basic lines and curves. In this you learn to use the Curvature Tool. I learned how to use the Arc Tool and the Line Segment Tool. Lesson 3 Drawing spirals so I hold down the Arc Tool click Spiral Tool. Now I am working with the Rectangle and Ellipse Tool showing different shapes.
The Ellipse is the Circle ones. The rectangle ones are the Rectangle.
These are the spirals I drew using the spiral tool. The spiral tool is extremely fun.
The straight line is the line segment tool, the complete circle one is the curvature tool, and the bent line that isn’t all the way closed is the arc tool.
Has the 3 same elements which is Path Control Handle and Anchor Points. What you will have after drawing a shape. Starting and end point that encompasses which means that the start point is the same as the end point. The difference with this one having all the elements is that the ones for closed paths make a complete shape.
This is the Curved Paths. There is anchor points again. The path is still there just curved. Then there is the Control Handle which are the little dots. The Control Handle elements let’s you move to different angles.
The Anchor Points determine where the Path will start and end. The Path is the the straight line.
I worked on Lynda.com Lessons. So I am on Chapter 5 Lesson 4 Drawing rectangles and ellipses. I started on this lesson yesterday. But didn’t get to do much before it was time to leave for the day. I used the Rectangle and Ellipses tool.
This is the way you can change what shape you create.
The little Circle inside of the Black is the Arc tool that you can use to change the sides of the square from straight to curved.
This is the Rectangle tool. The way you get the square with the Rectangle tool is to hold the shift key down and drag the mouse.
Now I will be working on Lynda.com Lessons for the rest of class. I am working on Lesson 5 of Chapter 5 and it is about drawing polygons and stars. The only tool you use is the polygon tool and you change which shapes you will make by holding down the shift key and either clicking the up or down arrow on your keyboard. But you have to remember to keep holding down the mouse as well.
Here is the other one I used the polygon tool. When drawing all these shapes you just have to use the polygon tool.
This Photo and the next one are of ones I drew using the polygon tool.
This Photo show all the different polygons you can draw using the polygon tool.
Today we worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I am finishing up Lesson 5 Drawing polygons and stars. Today instead of using the polygon tool or any other tool. I used the Star tool. The star tool allows you to draw types of stars. I am now on Lesson 6 Using the Pencil tool for freehand drawing.
This is what I drew with the Pencil Tool.
This is the Pencil Icon
You get to the Pencil Tool Options by double clicking on the Pencil Icon.
This is the only star I drew so far.
These are the different kind of stars you can draw with the Star tool.
Today I worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I rewatched the video I did yesterday. Today I will Start Chapter 6. I am on Lesson 1 of Chapter 6 Using the Direct Selection tool. I am working with the direct selection tool. You get the most control over your artwork by using the direct selection tool and control handles. I did 4 lessons on chapter 6 now moving on to lesson 5.
I have duplicated this image 3 by holding down the option key on the mac and the alt key on the pc and then drag as holding that down.
The ones in the square are all grouped now. You do that by clicking the lasso tool and drawing a circle or whatever shape you would need. Then you click object at the top of the screen and click group.
If you drag the control handle while holding the option key it breaks the link so you can adjust just what you want.
Moving the control handle in makes a dent in the shape because the control handle is linked to itself.
Selecting on one of the anchor points bring up all the control handles.
The anchor points show up after you select on the shape.
did Lynda.Com Lessons. I am using the scale tool on the lesson I am on. I am finishing Lesson 5 Scaling Objects. I am on Lesson 6 Rotating Tool. In this video you learn how to use the rotate tool.
I used the rotate tool to change the time on the clock.
The original picture with the time that it started with.
Today we did Lynda.Com Lessons. I am working on filling in colors. Here is what I have done so far. This is the first thing I have color filled. When doing this you want to be on color swatches and then you select where you want to fill the color in at.
Today we worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I am finishing up Lesson 1 of Chapter 7. Adding color fills to your objects is Lesson 1. I have gotten this far on color fills. I had fun color filling this illustration in with different colors make more creativity. I started Lesson 2 Creating and using gradient fills.
The one next to the 2 reds is the one I did.
This is the finished product from today
This is the one from yesterday.
This is the one from today.
This was the original picture.
Today was Lynda. Com lessons. I finished the last lesson I got to. I also emailed my goals of the week. Now I will be working on Lesson 3 Adding Strokes to your objects. You use shortcuts like command+ a or command + y or even command + or command -. So having all the shortcuts help. I used the stroke panel to darken each photo below and on the shapes I also used it for the arrows and dashes.
I darkened the shapes up and then on the circled one I made it like a loading sign with 2 different arrows. Then on the rectangle I added dashes and arrows to and made the dash and gap size. The dash size is 5 pt and the gap is 2 pt. The shapes were darkened so they could be seen better.
The outline gets darker as you change the weight on this it is set at 4.
This is the stroke panel and in this you can change the weight and the alignment.
To get it to look normal like this photo of the elephant you click stroke make it black and then you click the fill and make it white.
This is the outline that you get to by pressing command + y it is a photo I used already
Today I am working on Lynda.Com Lessons. I am working on adding gradient strokes to your objects. I learned about gradient strokes. It was a very interesting lesson. I was so interested about learning it I had fun with that lesson. Now I am working on creating variable width strokes.
This is the tree I attempted to draw and as you can tell the limbs the trunk the hole where animals would live are all with width strokes.
This is the photo after the width strokes. As you can see it looks like he is smiling now.
This is the photo before the width strokes.
This is after all the red is finished and I finished the 3d affect.
This is where I added different mixtures of red. Where I started the 3d affect.
This is where I started adding the stoke with the gradient.
This is still only gradient just in a different color.
This is the second image with just gradient.
This is the image I started with.
Today I worked on Lynda.com Lessons. I did Chapter 8 Lesson 5 Working with color groups. In this lesson you are making a group in swatches and naming it and making it how you want it to be. I just finished Chapter 8. I finished Lesson 7 of Chapter 8 which is the last lesson of that chapter. Lesson 7 was Loading ASE files into Illustrator.
This is the ASE I put in with the swatches.
In this video you learned how to open an ASE file and put it with your swatches. Which is pretty easy.
This is the photo I added the color groups to and added different swatches with.
Once you click new group this is what pops up so you can name it.
Then you would go to the one with the box around it and click new group.
This is the swatches panel so you would go here first.
I emailed my goals of the week. Today was Lynda.Com Lessons. I realized Lesson 1 and 2 weren’t as hands on as other so there was nothing to show. I enjoy Lynda.Com Lessons. I may not always understand them but I enjoy them.
I now added dots to it which I think makes it look cool.
I made the picture thicker and added a darker blue around the outside. I also added a blue stroke around it.
This is the original image
Now I will be working on Lynda.Com Lessons. I am working on Lesson 4 Working with live effects. I have added a drop shadow behind what I have. Having the drop shadow behind the image makes it more interesting looking.
These are the options the changes take effect right after you click ok.
The first step to get to the drop shadow options.
This is the drop shadow behind the image.
The original image before the drop shadow.
Today we worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I will be working on Lesson 5 Saving appearances as graphic styles. This is the last lesson of Chapter 9 Using the Appearance Panel. Working with graphic styles seems very interesting. Adobe Illustrator is very interesting. I am working on Chapter 10 Creating complex shapes. I worked on Lesson 1 Creating compound paths and shapes but nothing to really screenshot. I worked on Lesson 2 Working with the Pathfinder panel.
Then after you clicked pathfinder you get the panel.
Then you click on Pathfinder.
First you go to the window button.
This is after I made some changes. I used the pathfinder panel
This is the image I started with. Before I made the changes.
This is the image after I changed the graphic style.
This is the image I started with.
Today I worked on Lynda.Com Lessons. I continued working on Lesson 2 Working with the Pathfinder Panel. Dealing with the Pathfinders and Shape Modes are easy and fun to do. It is neat with how many different pathfinders there are. Learning them is interesting because you learn what they do. I am on Lesson 3 Using the Illustrator Brush tools.
This is the Touch Calligraphic Brush.
This is the 5 pt. Flat brush.
This is the 3 pt. round brush.
This is the 10 pt. round brush
This is with the Leather seam brush.
Now I have changed the Crop, Outline, and Minus Back on the Pathfinders. On the Shape Modes I have changed the Unite, Minus Front, Intersect, and Exclude.
This is what I have gotten so far.
Now I will be working on Lynda.Com lessons. I am on lesson 4 Using the Eraser tool.
This is after I cut his hair with the eraser tool. Not the best but it was cut.
This is before I erased the pointy part of his hair off.
Today I worked on Adobe Illustrator on Lynda.com lessons. I worked with the shape builder tool. The shape builder allows you to different shapes into one shape. I am working on using the pen tool.
Here is a random drawing to show the pen tool.
This is after I added color to the fish and the circles. I added color to the circles so you could see where they overlapped at.
This is after I made on shape out of all of them. I also put color in the fish.
These are the shapes before I used the shape builder.
Today I worked on Lynda.com lessons. I also emailed my answer from the question in today’s blog post. I am working on Chapter 11 Lesson 2 Drawing curves with the Pen tool. Now I am working on lesson 3 Drawing complete shapes with the Pen tool. The pen tool starts out confusing and gets easier
So I have drawn a square and a triangle.
Here is what I drew with the pen tool so far.
